Ocean 1

Acrylic Painting on Canvas
36” x 48”

I’ve lived most of my life in Maryland with easy access to the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. I have always enjoyed watching the motion and ever changing colors of the ocean from the upper floors of a beach front hotel. That view also allows me to further abstract or distill the scene to its essence of color and texture. Ocean I is the first in a series of ocean paintings, conceived from the balcony of the Grand Hotel on Ocean City’s boardwalk.

Night Fishing on Piney Creek

Acrylic Painting on Hardboard
16” x 16”

When I was a child, I would go night fishing with my Uncle Bill on the creek near my grandmother’s farm on Kent Island. This textured painting is my remembrance of those nights when the ink-dark sky was bursting with stars. This was before the island experienced significant development and the added artificial illumination no longer allows one to see such iridescent brilliance in the night sky. For my writing on this subject, see my book “Kent Island, The Land That Once was Eden”
